The Aggie Surf Shop is proud to present our ECO range of Beach Beat Surfboards. Custom built surfboards to order or stock boards on the rack, that are produced with as environmentally friendly materials as we can source.
We recognise that change is needed to step towards sustainability. We're not going to get all righteous on you because that would make us hypocrites. The surfboard industry has been heavily reliant on petrochemical based materials for many years. Obviously we know this, and we understand the desecration to the environment but the materials are still the best way to produce custom surfboards that perform to the highest level. We are not just jumping on the ‘green’ bandwagon and declaring our up most care for the planet as that would be very hypocritical giving the way we have produced surfboards for years, the petrochemical wetsuits we wear, the petrochemical wax we buy, and the amount we travel etc etc. But what we are doing is actively seeking alternative methods and materials to custom surfboard production that are less harmful to the environment that, for the time, will run alongside the existing methods and materials.
With the increase in availability of more environmentally friendly materials, The Aggie Surf Shop are stoked to be able to offer you some more environmentally friendly alternatives running alongside our standard P.U./Polyester surfboard.
As standard, all our surfboards, apart from the odd exception, are laminated with U.V. curing resin which reduces waste and reduces the amount of VOC's released. What is most promising, and we look forward to your feedback, is that we can offer:
- plant based, U.V. curing, ECO resin,
- E.P.S Foam blanks,
- plant based ECO foam blanks,
(More to come soon)
These options help The Aggie Surf shop offer you a more environmentally friendly range of Beach Beat Surfboards. For example, combining an ECO blank with U.V. curing plant based resin gives a 55% plant based surfboard, retaining similar performance and compared to the conventional 100% petrochemical surfboards, this is a definite step in the right direction for more sustainable surfboard production materials.
The ECO blanks are light straw colour in appearance, reflecting their plant based content, and are best suited for use with the U.V. plant based resin. These materials are still fairly new so please feel free to talk to us about longevity and weight. Aesthetically, the ECO blanks and resin can show slightly more imperfections, weight is minimally increased and durability is slightly reduced but we consider this a just price to pay for a far more environmentally friendly alternative to the standard surfboard.
Any way please feel free to call or email us with any queries and questions. There are a few different options that you can go for, so contact us!
